Technologies are researched in the university. A player can build only one university and can only research one technology at a time. To start the research of a technology, you need to have enough knowledge.

Knowledge is generated by the university and by the libraries. Garrisoning scholars, professors, villagers or peons in these buildings will increase their knowledge production.

Many technologies require research of other technologies first. This can be represented in a technology tree. The technologies are ordered, from top to bottom, in 5 categories:

  • Technologies that benefit your knowledge production and research;
  • Technologies that benefit your economy;
  • Technologies that benefit your military;
  • Technologies that benefit buildings;
  • Technologies that benefit trading.

Researching all technologies takes quite some time - almost the duration of a server. It is nearly impossible to research them all, so make sure to make wise choices as to what technologies are important for your strategy.

Researching a techonology takes time. Every research has a different duration. Some take hours and some take days. There are three godpowers which speed up your researches: enlightenment decreases all research times by 50% for three days and also doubles your knowledge production for this period, evolvement decreases all research times by 33% for the next three days and eureka will finish the current research immediately and return the invested knowledge points. Also there is the godpower omniscience which allows you to pick and research a technology instant and for free.

Some relics increase your knowledge production or decrease the research time as well.
