Introduction
The Barbarian civilization is not a playable civilization, but is used to create computer controlled players. The Barbarian villages are randomly distributed on the map and relocate after a certain amount of time, indicated on their village overview.
Barbarians villages can be attacked to loot various commodities and gain battle points and will even retaliate and send attacks your way. However, because they are controlled by the server, they will not respond to messages, invitations or any requests.
Raiding Barbarians
As noted before, Barbarian villages can be attacked to raid resources, relics, or treasures. But beware that Barbarians will defend themselves! They have a certain amount of defending units that will grow over time and that will be retrained when killed.
Not all Barbarian villages are equally interesting; every village has a level ranging between 0 and 1000 that indicates the strength and richness of the village. The higher this level, the higher the likelihood of high value commodities and an equally high defensive power. Off course, villages that have never been attacked before will have more resources left to raid.
Several icons in the village overview of the Barbarian villages show if they are interesting to raid:
- The icon
indicates that the village has a relic.
- The icon
indicates that the village has a treasure.
The way that the barbarian villages are shown on the map can also reveal some interesting information:
- A fire indicates that the village has not yet been attacked.
- A black flag indicates that the village possesses a relic and/or a treasure.
Retaliations
Barbarians will not sit idly by while they are being raided and killed. They will also attack other players to steal their resources and relic.
Every village will get attacked by a Barbarian sooner or later, but the intensity and frequency of these attacks will depend on how much you have attacked Barbarian villages and how much you have stolen from them. Note that when you stop attacking barbarians, they will still remember your past attacks and attack accordingly. It is only after a longer period of few or no attacks that the Barbarians will no longer consider you a big enemy. Barbarians might also attack you even if you haven't attacked them ever.
Barbarians will organize their attacks and will use several tactics such as fake attacks and multiple simultaneous attacks to confuse their target. They will use leaders to strengthen their army and they will bring along a Shaman if they intend to steal a relic.
Units
Barbarians can have the following units:
- Caveman: A light infantry unit; the weakest of all Barbarian units.
- Skirmisher: A javelinist, a little stronger than the cavemen.
- Warrior: An offensive archer, stronger than the Skirmisher.
- Shaman: A priest; used by Barbarians to steal back relics.
- Chieftain: A leader, strong and to be feared!
- Raider: A light cavalry unit.
